The Capital City Of Arizona

When I would say Phoenix, not everyone would imagine a mythical bird with fire feathers, but an incredible and beautiful city with the same name. Phoenix is the capital city of Arizona and the fifth-largest city of the USA with a population of over 1.6 million. It lies in the northeast of North America. Thanks to dry desert air the average summer temperature is one of the highest in the world - almost 40 °C.

The history starts when a small community, hundreds of years before the cities in the eastern part of Arizona were ruled by wilderness, occupied the land of The Pueblo Grande ruins, today known as Phoenix.

These new residents started to make from this wild their home. They built an irrigation system and canals hundreds of kilometers long. Thanks to the canals the soil became fertile. Unfortunately, these residents were probably destroyed by a merciless drought. By these people were inspired the local Indians and named the Pueblo Grande ruins and the canal systém "Ho Ho Kam" (the people who have gone).

In the 19th century, in Phoenix´s modern history, Jack Swilling of Wickenburg went on his horse through White Tank Mountain. He looked down and saw brown dry soil. With an idea to turn this area into farmland, he moved into the Valley and he and his company began digging a canal to bring water from the Salt River. In 1868 water flowed through the canal a few members started to grow plants.

The biggest expansion of the city comes during World War II. Till now. The population during this period grew four times. This was mostly caused by building Luke Air Force Base during WWII, now home to the biggest fighter wing

In phoenix is plenty of things to do. For Example, Phoenix is home to over 200 golf courses all over the city, for its tourists, who are visiting the city since the '20s of the 20th century, the city has prepared more than 480 hotels and more than 40 resorts properties. Also, it is full of museums of every kind, from music and arts to Botanics, you can also visit The Hall of Flame, a museum with the world's largest collection of fire-fighting equipment.

As proof that Arizona belongs to the USA, Phoenix is home to tons of sports leagues, from baseball, hockey to football and basketball. Phoenix´s sports stadiums have participated in hosting Super Bowls in 1996, 2008, 2015 and were selected to host Super Bowl LVII in 2023.
In conclusion, through the history from a dry desert where from antics ruins has grown a giant agglomeration with one of the highest amounts of tourists per year, home culture and sport, it has remained its beauty and soul and doesn´t forget its roots. A prove of this is that Arizona is home to 22 American Indian tribes.
