Oliver Cromwell was born on 25th April 1599 and died on 3rd September 1658. He is known as Lord Protector of the Commonwealth of England, Scotland and Ireland and of the English colonial empire.

It is a well known fact that he was a strong believer, actually a puritan so he was sympathising with the protestants. There was rivalry in religions, because England and Scotland were protestant, but Ireland was Catholic (some even say that Cromwell did a gonocide against irish catholics). He believed that God was the reason of all his victories.

In 1628 he was elected Member of Parliament for Huntingdon and for Cambridge for the Short Parliament in 1640 and for the Long Parliament from 1640 until 1660. These Parliaments were summoned by the King Charles I. He also appeared in the English Civil Wars on the side of Parliament called Roundheads.

He is also connected to bringing the Irish Confederate Wars to end. Before being invited to be the Lord Protector he set up an assembly called Barebone´s Parliament in 1653.

As a ruler, he executed an aggressive and effective foreign policy. When he died of natural causes he was buried in Westminster Abbey, but when the Royalists turned to power with King Charles II. they dug his corpse up, hung in chains and had him beheaded.
