Russia

Russia is a country where a part is European and a part in Asia. It is not a democracy state, there is oligarchy, which means it is ruled by a group of the richest people. The president is Vladimir Putin, he has been president since 2008, only with a break between 2008 and 2012, when Dmitry Medvedev was a head of state.

It's a very large state, the biggest country in the world, so there are many biomes and differences between regions. There is a polar region, on the northern part, then subpolar region, then temperate climate region and also subtropical one, on the south on the board of Black sea and Caspian sea. And I think that this is also important when talking about culture. Most of the people are living in the west, around their capital- Moscow. And on the opposite, in the north, in Siberia, there are not many people living, because it is too cold to live here.

Now, let's talk a little bit about dance. I think that ballet is really important here and that it describes Russian culture too. The most famous dancer is Sergej Polunin, a man, who has a tattoo of Putin's face and who is also an actor.

Mostly, people here are Christians, there are almost half of the inhabitants of the Russian Orthodox Church. Recently, in Russia, a sect of jehovists was banned.

There is one holiday, very similar to a holiday we had in the Czech Republic too, but nowadays not many people are celebrating it. In Russia, it is called Maslenitsa. It symbolizes the transition between winter and spring. It lasts one week and usually, they cook pancakes and burn scarecrows. They called this scarecrow a Lady Maslenitsa. I the Czech Republic it is called Morena and it is a symbol of winter people throw into rivers. In Russia, children dress up and play in the snow.
