How I Almost Lost Her

"Alright, but we don't want to play with you, we are big kids. Go play with someone else," I shouted at my two years old sister Ella. I turned around and followed my cousins to do something fun with them. Playing in the garden with a little kid whole afternoon can become really exhausting. And since we were already bored by playing hide and seek kind of games, George, Sam and I decided to play some videogames instead.
An hour later we got hungry so we went next doors to see if grandma had something to eat. On our way there we noticed a gate was opened. Someone must have forgotten to close it. Since dogs were in the garden we didn't really care and just shut the gate. As we were walking to the fridge we saw our grandparents looking for something all over the garden. "Perhaps they are looking for grandmas glasses, " said Sam and we all started laughing since her glasses were on the kitchen counter. As quickly as we started we stopped when we heard what were they actually looking for. Or rather who were they looking for.
My mom ran into the door with a really serious look on her face. "Have you seen Ella?" she asked with a glimpse of hope in her voice. "No, we haven't seen her since afternoon," George answered. "Why are you asking mom?" I asked her while spreading jam on my sandwich. "We've been looking for her for 20 minutes now. She is nowhere to find," said mom with tears in her eyes. None of us knew what to say. After half-minute of silence, I ran out of the house with George and Sam behind me. Everyone of us was looking everywhere. We searched in the house, in the garden, we even checked around the house. She wasn't there.
It felt like a dead end. What to do now? Then suddenly out of nowhere, Sam asked: "You don't think she would take us seriously and go to play across the street on the playground, do you?" "But, if she did that, how would she cross the street? Lots of cars are driving on this road," said George. At the time it was my only hope. We needed to try. "Let's go," I exclaimed.
We crossed the street carefully and then we ran as fast as we could. Noone was on the playground. We were out of our breaths. It was our only hope, now even that was gone. "Wait, she was wearing that pink jacket today, correct?" asked George between breaths. "Yes, why is that important?" I asked. "There she is!" shouted George happily and we all started running towards the football field behind the playground. "Ella!" all of us shouted. When we got to her we gave her one big group hug. "Where were you going sweetheart?" asked Sam. "Play football," she answered innocently.
After we took her home, we explained to her what was wrong about what she did. It was a big relief for all of us that she was alright. It was a frightening experience for me, but it helped me realize the real qualities of life. That I would rather spend time playing with my little sister, than playing some stupid videogames. You never know what can happen.
