The olympic flame was already handed over from the Greeks to Japanese, but it is still uncertain if the games will actually take place because of the pandemic caused by coronavirus. The nations of G7 have discussed whether to postpone the games or actually cancel them. Most of the world seems to postpone it, but Japan wants the Games to happen as scheduled. Even if the virus stopped spreading by that time it would still be a huge risk of falling to spreading it again because the athletes would come from all around the world and the future of the virus is also unknown, so it might hit its peak in that time and cause more infecting.

Japanese athlete said that he is down for postponing the games since the people wouldn't be able to enjoy it fully. It is already sure that it could be postponed until the end of this year, but if it would have to be postponed further is uncertain.

The economic damage is sure going to be big for Japan. It is obvious that even if they took place as planned there wouldn't be as many fans and tourists as expected while organising them. Japan has invested huge amount of money already and if the people don't come and rent the places prepared for them it has no chance of getting the money from it.
