Phoenix in the Movies

27.05.2021

In this chapter, we´re going to look at the movies, specifical movies with the word Phoenix in its name, a character named or representing Phoenix. Let's go through one of the most favorite movies of all the time about magicians then a thriller taking place in the desert and a successful German drama.

The most famous rendition of Phoenix has appeared in all known movies about Harry Potter. The first appearance of Phoenix was in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets where Fawkes (name of the Phoenix) belongs to Albus Dumbledore. In this case, the properties of Fawkes are very authentic. For example, its feathers are flammable to the touch, it can burn itself and its tears can cure, which save Harry at the end of the movie when he´s fighting with a basilisk. He´s harmed and almost dies when suddenly Fawkes appears, starts to cry, and saves Harry´s life.

The second movie called Flight of the Phoenix is about a group of people who wreck in the middle of the desert. Their plane is almost destroyed, at least it cannot fly. Yet. The group is trying to survive, but the desert isn´t the only enemy. Soon they will fight with each other, the water is running out and they will learn they´re not the only people in the desert. After a few days and nights, the plane will be reborn and called Phoenix. The question is if the new Phoenix will be able to fly again.

Last but not least is a drama called simply Phoenix which was created by a German director and was filmed according to a book Phoenix from the ashes. The movie takes place after World War II. Nelly, a woman who managed to survive Osvetim, is coming home to Berlin to look for her husband Johnny. While Nelly´s whole family was dead and she was in Osvetim, Johnny was convinced that his wife was dead, too. Nelly finds out that her husband works in a nightclub called Phoenix, but because of a bullet wound, Nelly had to reconstruct her face and Johnny says he doesn´t know her but she is similar to his, in his opinion, dead wife. Because Nelly thinks that Johnny had betrayed her to the Nazis. The main plot is that Johnny wants inheritance after his "dead" wife so he asks the strange woman - Nelly - to impersonate his "dead" wife. Nelly says yes, she will reborn herself and is determined to reveal the right face of her husband.
