PHYSICAL HEALTH
Lucie Pluskalová
I have already written about mental health, so I thought it would be good to mention physical health as well. It doesn´t really matter, whether your goals are to improve your mental or physical health, but this article might help you with focusing on the physical ones. Are you curious why? Physical and mental health is connected and mental health is connected to procrastination, which I have mentioned in my first article.
What comes to your mind, when someone says physical health? Is it a healthy lifestyle, or maybe illness? Is it a big muscular man or a skinny woman? It doesn´t really matter. The important is that we are going to start talking about it.
Physical health is very important and it's silly to say it´s not. Each one of us, people or animals, even flowers, everything that is alive, wants to be healthy. But how do you know one is healthy? I don't think there is one simple definition (you can try to find one), so we need to be more specific. You can say you´re healthy when you´re not ill, but it doesn't really say much.
If you want to be healthy, a very important part of it is eating healthy. That means to eat a balanced diet with vegetables, protein, fruit, healthy fats, healthy carbs etc. If you want to lose weight, you might consider reducing your calories intake. What does that mean? Because you are alive and you are emitting some energy (the energy we call calories) for your normal working (for being alive) and some energy when you are doing some sort of sport or physical activity. That energy, which our body needs as a fuel in order to function properly, is food. So for weight loss it is optimal to produce more energy than you consume. And it also works vice versa. You want to gain weight? - eat more calories than you burn.
You should also be physically active. Why? It has many positive effects on our body. Besides, your body will also look better, if that is one of your priorities. You will definitely feel better though, curious why? When you do some physical activity, your body produces endorfine, a hormone of happiness.
