Šimon Pánek

Šimon Pánek is a prominent Czech humanitarian, human rights advocate, and the co-founder of the non-governmental organization People in Need (Člověk v tísni). Born in 1967, Pánek became widely recognized for his activism, particularly in the realms of international aid, democracy promotion, and human rights. His work began to gain attention in the 1990s when he helped establish People in Need, which initially focused on providing assistance to people in post-communist countries, especially those in the former Yugoslavia during the Balkan conflicts.
Pánek's organization quickly expanded its reach, providing humanitarian aid, development programs, and human rights advocacy across various regions, including Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. Under his leadership, People in Need became one of the most influential and respected NGOs in the Czech Republic, providing critical support to communities affected by poverty, natural disasters, and conflict.
In addition to his humanitarian work, Pánek has been an outspoken advocate for democracy and civil society. He has worked on projects promoting democratic values and political freedom in countries like Myanmar, Belarus, and Ukraine.
