DUBLIN

08.03.2024

Dublin, with its approximate 1.4 million population and covering an area of 117 million square meters, comes as a capital city of the republic of Ireland. Situated on the east coast of Ireland, it is surrounded by the Irish sea from the east side.

You might associate plenty of things with the word Dublin… perhaps that it is in Ireland, right? Okay, fun time is over. We are getting serious. Probably the most known aspect about Ireland and its people is their love for drinking – in a good way of course! Grabbing a pint and settling down in a local pub with your lads is just a classic and a cherished tradition. Dublin boasts a number of pubs, particularly in the vibrant and lively Temple Bar area. The iconic black beer known as Guinness is truly an awesome treat. Oh, fear not! If you are not too fond of beer, there are plenty of other options to choose from, the good old Irish whiskey, for example. Well, enough of alcohol stuff, let's move on and explore some other prodigious aspects of Dublin.

Are you a literature enthusiast, especially fond of classics? If so, do not hesitate to check out some of the great literary heroes! Esteemed authors such as James Joyce, Oscar Wilde, Samuel Beckett, W.B. Yeats have left their mark on the country… do these names ring a bell? In terms of literature, one of the most famous and most ancient artifacts – "The Book of Kells" which is thought to have been created by Celtic monks around 800 A.D. – is housed in the library of Trinity College Dublin

As for Trinity College, it is the most prestigious university in Ireland and ranked No. 81st in the world! It is located in the heart of Dublin on the south side of the river Liffey, which flows through the town and divides it into northern and southern halves. Several iconic bridges span the river, including the Ha'penny Bridge and the Samuel Beckett Bridge

Regarding historic buildings and sites, the Dublin Castle is an opulent landmark. It has served various purposes throughout in history, including as a fortress, royal residence, and government buildings. Today, it hosts ceremonial events and exhibitions. Moreover, St. Patrick's Cathedral is the largest church in Ireland and is dedicated to Ireland's patron St. Patrick, its magnificent medieval architecture is indeed admirable.

Ooof, I got a bit carried away… hopefully I am not boring you to death yet… anyway, last but not least, Ireland is known for its fresh and lush greenery and from personal experience I can confirm that statement being true. There are several parks in Dublin with abundant vegetation, flora, and fauna. Parks, such as Iveagh Gardens, St. Stephen's Green, St. Patrick's Park and the notoriously known Phoenix Park, which is, interestingly, home to around five hundred European fallow deer.

That would be a part of the basic general information and facts about Dublin in a nutshell. I frankly hope you found at least some of these facts mentioned above interesting and fun to read.

Take care and bye for now!
