playing IRL #2

10.01.2018

We were in my room. I was watching Jason type on my computer - signing us up for IRL. At the time, Jason had grown out his hair to shoulder length. His family was (and still is) poor, so he didn't have a computer. I've known him my whole life and it was one stupid idea after another. If someone asked me how many times I've gotten into trouble because of him, I wouldn't be able to answer. I've lost count after reaching the age of 7.

Truth be told, at times, it was rather annoying. People always wondered why I stuck with him.

I called him my best friend, but really, he is my only friend. At some point I realized people only talked to me because of my parents' money, and sent everyone you know where. Since then, nobody even looked my way. Except Jason.

He may be stupid, but he's loved by everyone. And I sort of get it. Not once have I ever gotten a feeling he's with me for the money. Quite the contrary, he is very open about using all the amenities I own without any hidden intentions. Honesty - that's what draws people to him.

So, back to the story. He just typed in the name of our team - Wild Dragons. I cringed. ,,Wild... Dragons?" He turned to me. ,,We have to have a cool name." ,,Is that your definition of cool?" He raised an eyebrow and proceeded to delete the words in the column. ,,So what do you want to be called?" I shrugged. I didn't care all that much, but just not "Wild Dragons", please. ,,What about 'key finders' or something like that?" Jason looked at me with an expression full of horror. ,,Where has your imagination gone?! Come on Mikey, we can't have a lame name, this is going to stick with us for years." 'Yeah, right' I thought, but didn't say anything out loud. ,,Then what about taking the first letters from out names. MJ. There you go. A name." He just stood there for almost five minutes, pulling a long face.

When he's thinking hard about something, that's what he tends to do. I left him to it, went to the kitchen, grabbed cookies and came back. He snatched the cookie I was about to eat, stuffed it in his mouth and mumbled something unintelligible. ,,You know, it's hard to understand you while you're munching on MY cookie." Swallowing, he pointed at me. ,,Fine, Michael Huttlestone. You win. Our name shall be MJ, but that does in NO way mean you are the boss. It is only because JM doesn't sound as good." He was speaking in a loud voice with a British accent. Whenever he's announcing something important, he does that. He thinks it gives his speech a certain impact. ,,Fine, whatever. Just register us already so we can get this over with."

to be continued...
